The Sankaty Head Caddie Program

The Sankaty Head Caddie Program is located at the Sankaty Head Golf Club, a “Top 100 Classic Course” on the eastern end of Nantucket Island.  Operated since 1930, Sankaty is one of the last remaining residential caddie programs in the world.

Each summer, sixty caddies live in a community off the 11th fairway.  In addition to caddying for members of the Sankaty Head Golf Club, they contribute to the upkeep of the grounds, participate in educational programming, and enjoy each other’s company through team sports and evening golf.  Caddies are paid for caddying and also have the opportunity to qualify for academic scholarships awarded by the Sankaty Head Foundation.

Giving Opportunities

We’re proud of our many traditions that have been kept alive for more than 95 years. The most important tradition is keeping the cost of attendance minimal for our caddies. Aside from a small daily fee to help offset the cost of meals, all other expenses that come with running the facility are generously covered by Sankaty Head Golf Club memberships, program alumni, and charitable contributions from dear friends around the world; this includes over $350,000 a year in educational scholarships.

Interested in Becoming a Caddie?

Part of the reason the Sankaty Head Caddie Program is so successful is because caddies return summer after summer to build and hone their skills both on and off the golf course. This allows for older members to serve as mentors to new attendees, building formative relationships, and often, lifelong friendships. Those currently in 8th-10th grade are encouraged to apply to our program.
